Space-Vector D-STATCOM System for Power Quality Correction in Distribution Network

Custom power devices (CPD) are the present trend for power quality correction in distribution networks. This paper deals with one such mechanism, namely, the distribution static synchronous compensator (D- STATCOM). The proposed device is used for voltage swell/sag compensation in a test case distribution system using a space vector-based switching technique. The voltage sag is often observed in the presence of R-L, R-L-E, and other non-linear loads. On the other hand, a voltage swell is caused by the R-C loads. The placement of D-STATCOM for power factor amelioration is also considered. The vector control technique’s applicability is to enhance the power factor of the entities. The vector control technique independently administers the active power as well as the reactive power. The validation of the proposed technique is done with the help of simulation results using SIMULINK/MATLAB.
