An Integration Tool of Safety and Security Requirements for Autonomous Vehicles

Safety of Autonomous Vehicle (AV) is more complicated than a traditional vehicle, because AV consists of a myriad of heterogeneous components, both cyber and physical, which pose additional cyber security challenges. Therefore, how to efficiently integrate safety and security requirements of AVs is a new issue in the automotive industry. Traditional methods consume a lot of manpower and time, and there’s no effective way to distinguish if there is a conflict between safety and security requirements. Given this, IT2SR, an integration tool of safety and security requirements, is proposed in this paper. IT2SR obtains the safety and security requirements automatically and unifies the format based on Stanford CoreNLP toolkit, and can detect the relationship between safety and security requirements. Based on a general AV model, the implementation shows that the IT2SR can automatically obtain and format safety and security requirements, and detect if there is a conflict between them. IT2SR is helpful for collaborative safety and security engineering, and selecting appropriate countermeasures for AVs taking into consideration the potential conflict.
