Performance Analysis of an FFT Spectrum-Based Detector and an Energy Detector for Selection of Suitable Detector in Electronic Warfare

In a modern electronic warfare environment, the ability to accurately detect signals of enemies is important. This study presents a comprehensive performance analysis of an energy detector and a fast Fourier transform (FFT) spectrum-based detector in the electronic warfare environment. Both detectors are based on the Neyman-Pearson detection theory and detect signals by calculating the threshold according to the false alarm rate. It is important to note that while the detection performance of the energy detector remains constant regardless of the signal's characteristics, the detection performance of the FFT spectrum-based detector changes depending on the signal's characteristics. To select a more suitable detector using these characteristics in electronic warfare, we analyze the signal detection performance of both detectors by applying various parameters to a linear frequency modulation (LFM) signal. This ensures appropriate detector selection based on the characteristics of receivers used for enemy signal analysis in electronic warfare scenarios.
