Performance Analysis of RIS-Assisted Satellite-Aerial-Terrestrial Integrated Network

In this paper, the performance of an reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) assisted satellite-aerial-terrestrial integrated network (RSATIN) is analyzed. Specifically, an RSATIN scenario involves an unmanned aerial vehicle equipped with RIS reflecting signals from satellites and delivers them to terrestrial users. A passive beamforming scheme in the considered RSATIN is proposed to attain asymptotically optimal performance, and the capacity under this configuration is asymptotically analyzed. Furthermore, performance is analyzed with respect to the frequency reuse configuration among multiple beams, as interference among beams may occur due to the radiation pattern of the satellite beam. Simulation results demonstrate the ability to accurately and analytically predict the performance of RIS-based satellite communication systems and validate the asymptotic optimality of the proposed scheme.
