Assistive Device for Alzheimer's Patients

Alzheimer's disease is a progressive neurological disorder that causes the brain to shrink and brain cells to die. Alzheimer's disease is the most common cause of dementia, a continuous decline in thinking, behavioral and social skills that affects a person's ability to function independently. Memory loss is the key symptom of Alzheimer's disease. As age is the strongest and best-known risk factor for dementia and Alzheimer's, the development of an assistive device for Alzheimer's patients is of paramount importance due to the increasing prevalence of the disease. Early signs include difficulty in remembering recent events or conversations. The project aims to maintain or improve a person's ability to do things in everyday life. It helps the patients with mild Alzheimer's disease. The project is to develop a wearable assistive device for Alzheimer's patients and their caretakers to improve the quality of life. The device can assist with a range of difficulties, including problems in identifying family members and friends, location tracking, reminder for daily activities. The features of this project include face recognition, indoor location tracking using RFID, reminder for day-to-day activities along with automated medicine dispenser and music therapy. All these features are incorporated into a light weight jacket with a lock system.
