Analysis and Interpretation of Data Received from Infineon Position2Go Module in a Process to Fabricate a Prototype Phased Array Radar

Signal analysis is the paramount issue in the design and fabrication process of a Radar. The detection process starts with the successful generation and transmission of the FMCW signal. Then the reflected CHIRPS are mixed with the transmitted signal, and an Intermediate Frequency (IF) signal is generated. Beat Frequency is obtained by using Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) analysis. Range and Angle estimation algorithms are used for acquiring the required information. Finally, an interactive Graphical User Interface (GUI) is utilized to represent the data intelligibly for the user's convenience. In this project, a comprehensive study has been carried out on Infineon Technology's radar demo board, Position2Go. Time-domain Raw data is directly acquired from the module through the laptop using the Segger JLINK-Lite driver and MATLAB. Extensive analysis has been carried out to understand the response of raw data on different varying parameters. Subsequently, another study has been carried out to obtain the optimum FFT value. The results of these studies are incorporated to develop the required processing scheme. The Zero-Padding technique has been assimilated into the data processing to get a better FFT result. After converting the time domain data into frequency domain data applying Fourier transformation, Range and Angle estimation algorithms have been implemented to deduce the targets' range and angle of arrival (AOA). Finally, the developed GUI is used to represent the data in a 2-D scope.
