Simulation Study on the Design and Analysis of Minkowski Anti Island Fractal for Micro-Supercapacitors

Supercapacitors, also known as ultracapacitors or electrochemical capacitors, are promising energy storage devices bridging the gap between conventional capacitors and batteries. The architecture of the device plays a crucial role in realizing the full potential of supercapacitors. Efforts have been dedicated to designing flexible and scalable supercapacitors suitable for integration into wearable electronics, energy storage systems, and electric vehicles. Recent studies have explored the novel fractal electrode design technique to increase the effective area of the electrode-electrolyte interface, thereby increasing the capacitance. This work investigates the design of Minkowski Anti Island fractal-based supercapacitor devices. The proposed fractal structure is simulated using COMSOL Multiphysics and analyzed for performance using cyclic voltammetry, galvanic charge-discharge technique, and electric field distribution. The results indicate higher power and energy densities than a traditional non-fractal supercapacitor, with higher specific capacitance figures.
