A Comparison Of Hybrid Beamforming Using MMSE And ZF Criteria

mmWave signals are being widely used in cellular technologies like 5G,6G.mmWaves will find huge application in the coming future. But mmWave experiences more pathloss than a normal microwave. One of the technique to combat this pathloss is by using large antenna arrays with beamforming capabilities. Traditionally,beamforming was implemented completely in digital domain. But as systems becomes more complex more number of RF chains are required. This leads to increase in cost and power consumption. Therefore a hybrid beamforming system with benefits of both analog and digital beamforming becomes ideal choice. Recent research has exploited spatial properties of mmWave to provide algorithimic solution to hybrid beamforming designs. We consider sparse reconstruction and matching pursuit algorithms to formulate the hybrid beamforming problem. The aim of this paper is to provide a comparative studie of hybrid beamforming algorithm using MMSE and ZF criteria. Our results shows that MMSE criteria outperforms ZF criteria.
