Investigating Changes in Delta Power Spectral Density of EEG in Participants Performing Different Tasks

This study aims to explore the variations in the average power spectral density of delta waves in the brain of participants while performing two different tasks. A series of experimental designs were created and validated to quantify this association. To investigate the cognitive processes of nuclear power plant operators during emergency situations, two distinct tasks were designed. One task involved watching an SGTR (Steam Generator Tube Rupture) operation video, which was relatively low in difficulty and complexity, as participants only needed to observe and comprehend the actual operating procedures without actively executing operational steps. The other task involved performing the operations themselves, which was more complex and challenging, as participants had to take action based on their training, execute intricate operational steps, and make decisions during emergency scenarios. In this study, delta wave average power spectral density (delta power) was specifically focused upon after feature selection, and its highest correlation with the experimental conditions was discovered. This finding underscores the significance of this feature in reflecting the cognitive processes of nuclear power plant operators, providing valuable insights that are expected to contribute to the improvement of training and working environments.
