IOT - Based Smart Environmental Monitoring for Oyster Mushroom (Pleurotus ostreatus) Production

The smart environmental monitoring system for oyster mushroom production presented in this paper uses an Arduino microcontroller and the Internet of Things (IoT). These Internet of Things (IoT) sensors track changes in temperature and humidity and transmit the information to the Arduino microcontroller, which configures the control algorithm. The simplest mushrooms to grow are oyster mushrooms (Pleurotus ostreatus), which can be produced from a variety of agricultural waste materials. The system was developed using the Iterative and Incremental model. The process primarily encompasses seven key stages: (1) planning, (2) requirements gathering, (3) analysis and design, (4) coding, (5) implementation, (6) testing, and (7) deployment. Based on the moisture content of the soil media learned from the moisture content sensor, the misting system can automatically control the water pumping system on the site. Misting is the most effective and popular method for achieving good propagation; a balance between transpiration and humidity is required to allow water and nutrient uptake without excessive dehydration, especially in the case of mushroom culture. Bacteria may develop if the growing medium is also completely saturated with water. The findings indicated that the temperature within the cultivation facility was consistently kept within the optimal range of 20 �C�30 �C. Given the inverse relationship between humidity and temperature, it was inferred that the ideal humidity levels were likewise upheld. The misting system was primarily implemented to regulate the temperature within the grow room. Its purpose was to cool the environment by automatically activating when the temperature exceeded 30 �C. Once the temperature and humidity sensors detect a reading of 30 �C, the misting system is triggered to activate. This is achieved by automatically opening the solenoid valves that are connected to the water source. The RTC module functions as a timekeeping device for recording temperature logs straight onto the SD card.
