Abstract:
A wireless sensor network (WSN) is constrained by the energy of sensors, communication distance, limited resources, etc. Increasing the lifetime of WSNs with optimal energy consumption methods is a challenging problem. Two essential techniques to increase the lifetime of a WSN are efficient data acquisition and forwarding based on compressed sensing and optimal sensor activation. The compressed sensing (CS) technique provides a new solution for gathering data efficiently. By exploiting the compressibility of signals, they are efficiently reconstructed from fewer samples. This article analyzes the performance of Compressive Data Gathering (CDG) and Compressive Sparse Function (CSF) with practical data in the presence of abnormalities. Thereafter, it proposes a hybrid CDGCSF-based approach that increases the lifetime of the WSN using modified sensing matrices. The performance of the proposed hybrid approach is found to be better than that of individual schemes in the presence of abnormalities in the data.
