Evaluating SVOD User Experiences: Insights from The UEQ Method

Technology is evolving very rapidly every year. The film industry is affected by technological advances. Subscription videoon-demand (SVOD) or film-watching service Application is rapidly growing, especially in Indonesia. According to the survey, the most popular apps in Indonesia are Disney+ Hotstar and Netflix. But, those bad reviews on the Google Play store on both apps are still frequently obtained. This study aims to compare film-watching applications moving in the same field and find out the value of the user experience of each app being surfed using the user experience questionnaire (EUQ) method. This method consists of six parameters: Attractiveness, Perspicuity, Efficiency, Dependability, Stimulation, and Novelty. It can accurately and effectively evaluate the experience perceived by the user towards a product. Google Forms are used to collect the data online from both application users. Then, we used the UEQ Analysis Tool to analyze the data. We got 122 respondents during our research time. Both applications mostly have positive scores for all parameters. The Disney+ Hotstar app got more than 0.8 scores for all parameters. The Netflix apps got lower than −0.8 for the novelty and positive score for the last parameters. We conclude that the Disney+ Hotstar app is better than the Netflix novelty scale. Netflix users may perceive it as a standard or conventional solution without many unique or innovative elements.
