Exploring User Behavior of mHealth Application: A Study of Determinants of Continuance Usage Intention

This study aims to assess and analyze the antecedents of continuance usage intention on health application users by combining the modified technology continuance theory (TCT) with the theory of planned behavior (TPB) and the privacy-trust-behavioral intention (PTB) model. Modified TCT consists of confirmation, perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, satisfaction, attitude, and continuance usage intention. TPB consists of attitude, perceived behavioral control, subjective norm, and continuance usage intention as behavioral intention. PTB consists of perceived privacy and security risk, trust, and continuance usage intention as behavioral intentions. The method used in this study is non-probability sampling, which is purposive sampling through a questionnaire. The targeted population was mobile health application users, with 118 samples. Statistical results were analyzed with PLS-SEM in SmartPLS 4.0.9.1. The result of the study showed positive and significant effects in the modified TCT except for perceived ease of use-perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use-attitude, and satisfaction-continuance usage intention. The results also showed positive and significant effects on TPB and PTB variables. Furthermore, the study revealed that attitude strongly affected continuance usage intention (0.357). Research outcomes indicated an essential contribution toward user post-adoptive behavior on mobile health applications. The user’s attitude toward health applications is a relatively stable variable that can be influenced and shaped by experiences over time, leading to a more positive or negative outlook depending on the nature of those experiences. This study provides valuable insight for mHealth application developers and researchers in human behavior and health technology.
