Optimal Power Flow Analysis using Improved Gradient Free JAYA based Algorithm

Optimal power flow (OPF) is a significant issue in the operation and design of power systems. In order to reduce system losses while meeting operational requirements, it entails establishing the most effective settings for control variables including generator outputs and bus voltages. In this study, a novel gradient-free optimization algorithm based on Jaya, known as the Jaya-based optimizer (JBO), is proposed for resolving the OPF issues in the standard test system. To effectively describe the OPF issue, the numerical simulation framework includes the power flow equations, generator cost functions, and operational restrictions. By incrementally changing the control variables, the JBO method is used to look for optimal solutions. JBO algorithm performs superior to the other optimization algorithms in the categories of convergence time and solution functionality. According to the numerical simulation findings, the JBO method can effectively establish optimal control settings for the IEEE118 bus test system that reduce system losses by approximately 40% and convergence time by 10% while fulfilling operational requirements and can be applied to non-convex and non-linear problem-solving.
