Setting-free Smart Recloser for Three Terminal Mixed Lines

The paper presents a setting-free smart auto-reclosing for three-terminal mixed lines. To perform auto-reclosing for such configurations, the faulted section must be known. The method calculates series impedance with the obtained pre-fault data to eliminate the need for parameters as a setting. The faulted section of the three-terminal mixed lines is identified by using calculated parameters and during fault data. The voltage at each Bus is computed and then compared against the measured voltage at the Bus. The minimum difference between the computed and measured voltage indicates the healthy sections, thereby indicating the faulted section. We used EMTDC/PSCAD simulations and practical system data to validate the method and found to be reliable.
