Enhancing Undergraduate Education through Semester-Long Internship Program

Internship programs have gained prominence as vital components of undergraduate (UG) education, fostering the integration of theoretical knowledge with practical experiences. This paper delves into the significance, design, implementation, and outcomes of semester-long internship program for undergraduate students at K. J. Somaiya College of Engineering. Drawing from existing literature, case studies, and educational theories, we present a comprehensive analysis of the benefits and challenges associated with the program. We highlight their potential to enhance students' academic, personal, and professional development, while also addressing concerns regarding equity, assessment, and faculty involvement. Through this paper, we advocate for the incorporation of well-structured semester-long internship into undergraduate curricula, paving the way for a holistic and experiential learning journey of the UG student.
