Optical Simulation Design of Novel Spherical LED Device with Wide Beam Angle and High Uniformity

This paper presents an analysis of the current research status of micro-light-emitting diode (LED) chips that realize non-Lambertian distribution and high uniformity; proposes a new type of high-power non-Lambertian distribution, wide beam angle, and high-uniformity mimetic lamp beads based on Mini-LED; and simulates the impact of different Mini-LED chip sizes on the newly proposed lamp beads under the conditions of bare drain chip, spherical package, or hemispherical package for three LED light sources. The results show that for a smaller Mini-LED, the beam angles of the above three types of light sources would increase and the uniformity would improve. Further, variations in the different packaging spheres or hemispherical packaging bodies on the new wide beam angle and high uniformity of Mini-LED are shown to have negligible impact on the beam angle of Mini-LED as size increases. Through the simulation calculation in this paper, it is found that as the size of LED chips decreases, their far-field light angle increases.
