Potential Impact of Electric Vehicles on Indian Duck Curve

The growth of the fleet of Electric Vehicles (EVs) globally has been happening exponentially because of its impact of decarbonizing the transportation sector. With the growing number of EV users, subsidized cost of the vehicle, and increasing awareness of the environment have led to increasing adoption of EVs which will further boost the number EVs in India. However, the increasing numbers of EV will lead to a change in the consumption pattern of the electricity consumers which will further reshape the load curve. This reshaping of the demand curve will lead to an issue of already existing duck curve. Again, the increasing adoption of solar in the distribution side of the grid will further deepen the belly of the duck curve. This paper studies the impact of increasing number of EV on the load curve and how it will impact the duck curve. Further, some solutions to solve the duck curve by modifying the EV charging pattern have also been discussed.
