The Control of Three-Phase Squirrel Cage Induction Motor by Indirect Field Oriented Control for E-Mobility

This paper introduces the utilization of Indirect Field-Oriented Control (IFOC) in the context of induction motor control for electric mobility (e-mobility) applications. IFOC enables precise and rapid regulation of both speed and torque in induction motors. It is a widely employed strategy in electric vehicle (EV) applications. The study in this paper investigates the behavior of an IFOC-based induction motor in an EV using MATLAB simulations. Various operational scenarios of the EV, including start-up, reverse motion, sudden load application, abrupt load removal, acceleration, and deceleration, are analyzed. The simulation employs the actual parameters of an 80Hz, 5-horsepower (HP) induction motor powered by a pulse-width modulation (PWM) inverter. The performance of the IFOC control strategy for the induction motor drive is evaluated within the context of the New York City Cycle (NYCC) drive cycle.
