Stability control of VSG based on damped inertia adjustment under small disturbances

Virtual synchronous generators (VSGs) simulate the damping and inertia characteristics of synchronous generators (SGs), but also introduces the transient stability problem faced by synchronous generators. That is, the operating point of VSGs fluctuates in the power-angle characteristic curve when it is disturbed, which has an impact on grid stability. While the conventional rotational inertia regulation strategy is not sensitive enough and is susceptible to noise disturbance. In this paper, by analyzing the relationship between inertia and angular frequency and considering the damping ratio constraint, an inertia and damping ratio regulation strategy is proposed to improve the small signal stability of VSGs. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed strategy is verified through simulation experiments.
