Dielectric Polarization of Poly (Vinylidene Fluoride) in Stationary Magnetic Fields: Effects on UV-VIS and Thermally Stimulated Current

Solution-grown PVDF films prepared in our laboratory were examined to study the effect of the applied DC magnetic field on the TSDC current and UV -VIS spectra of the polymer films. PVDF films followed by their magneto-electrets were prepared under the application of different strengths of applied external magnetic field at room temperature. The magnetoelecrets thus prepared were examined to obtain TSDC thermo grams and to investigate the polarization mechanism and surface characteristics of PVD F magnetoelecrets. The experimental data revealed that the applied magnetic field is responsible for the release of trapped charges from the various traps present on the surface and deep insight into the sample which further increases the current. The optical absorption data shows that the applied magnetic field has brought a variation in the optical absorption in the low-energy range which is associated with deeper traps only along with the conditions that these traps are likely charged and duly filled. These two results verify the release of trapped charges from the PVDF traps which are caused due to the application of different strengths of the magnetic field applied to the electret which further produces magnetoresistance in PVDF films. PVDF magnetoelecrtet has proved to be a novel material to work under different strengths of the magnetic field and will also provide a great opportunity for next-generation magnetic field applications.
