A New Data-Analytic Approach for the Design, Operation and Control of Residential Solar PV Systems

Solar energy holds Eco-friendly potential, but its unpredictability requires meticulous planning, design, operation, and control of standalone PV systems for uninterrupted power. This research introduces a novel data-driven method for optimizing the design, operation, and control of standalone PV systems in remote houses in a geographical location (Gurez Valley, J &K, India) with no grid access. The system design includes the sizing of PV panels, battery sizing and size of power converters and the system operation and control deals with power balancing and controlling battery state of charge (SOC) within specified limits. The yearly simulation results determined that a 1.2 k W off-grid PV solar system is sufficient to provide electricity at an affordable cost to a remote house with minimum blackout days. Optimized system configuration was achieved using data analytics, increasing efficiency and reliability, thereby advancing off-grid solar systems and sustainable energy solutions.
