Research and Development of Non-Destructive Testing System for Aqueous Zinc Ion Batteries Based on Ultrasound

Water-based zinc ion batteries (ZIBs) have become a highly potential energy storage system due to their simple manufacturing process and high safety performance. Then, during the charging and discharging process, gas evolution will occur inside the battery, resulting in a local nonvacuum state. This phenomenon can cause irreversible loss of electrode materials and electrolytes, leading to reduced battery performance and safety issues. This paper explores the application of ultrasonic non-destructive testing technology in the field of battery gas evolution detection. An ultrasonic detection experimental system was established and gas evolution experiments were conducted on a simulated aqueous zinc ion battery. After verification, the experimental equipment can effectively detect the presence of gases, accurately locate the emitted gases, and has the advantages of convenience, non-destructive, and real-time. It can promote the development of zinc ion battery testing and provide a feasible reference for future research on internal defect detection of batteries.
