Revisiting Power System Stability: Definitions And Classifications

The dynamic properties of energy systems have gradually changed since the publication of the groundbreaking study on stability in power systems definitions in [reference]. This development is explained by the growing integration of sophisticated transmission devices, varied loads, and converter-interfaced generating technologies. A special Task Force was established in [reference] to examine and broaden the traditional definitions and classifications of terminology related to basic stability, if needed, in light of the importance of this paradigm shift. The goal was to include the effects of electrical devices with fast reaction times. The current paper, which is an excerpt of the IEEE PES study, briefly summarizes the main results arising from the Task Force's work. It describes the more precise meanings and categories related to power system stability in the context of the changing environment caused by fast-response power electronics.
