Adaptive VSG Control Strategy for Grid Side Converter of Flywheel Energy Storage

In order to achieve the goal of “double carbon” and solve the problem of power system inertia reduction caused by the continuous increase of renewable energy power generation and the decline of the proportion of traditional thermal power units, flywheel energy storage equipment is configured in the new power system, and the converter at the flywheel energy storage network side adopts the virtual synchronous generation (VSG) control strategy, so that flywheel energy storage has the same rotation and excitation characteristics as a synchronous generator. Propose a new adaptive virtual inertia VSG control method, analyze the impact mechanism of VSG virtual parameters on frequency oscillation, introduce frequency change rate to characterize virtual inertia, reduce the adjustment deviation and time during energy storage VSG frequency adjustment, and adjust the virtual inertia parameters to analyze the range of parameter values. MATLAB/Simulink simulation results show that the proposed adaptive virtual inertia VSG control can maintain the output power stability of the converter at the grid side of the flywheel energy storage while improving the control system's ability to suppress frequency oscillations.
