The Environmental Impact of Electronic Waste: A Bibliometric Analysis

The generation of e-waste reached 52 million metric tons worldwide in 2020, growing at a pace of 3 % each year. Despite the urgency, the bulk of the created e-waste was disposed of inappropriately, with just 20% adhering to standard recycling methods. Taking care of this pressing issue is in line with the sixth Sustainable Development Goal 12 of the UN, which highlights the significance of responsible production and consumption. Studies on electronics waste and its effects on the environment have published much more often in recent decades. This research uses bibliometric analysis, and to graphically map current patterns and upcoming hotspots in the studying environment, VOSviewer software is used. Soil, health, environmental effect, recovery, technology, and electronic and electrical scrap are important study topics that have been designated as hotspots. A review of research trends over time indicates a move toward laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy, e-waste creation, and circular economy factors.
