Design and Analysis of Thin Film Holographic Metasurface-Based Leaky wave Antenna

A holographic metasurface-based leaky wave antenna (HMLA) is presented in this paper. The proposed metasurface, which is based on the holographic principle, is capable of transforming an omnidirectional monopole into a directional leaky wave antenna. A polyimide (PI) thin film (Dk = 3.05, Df = 0.008) having a thickness of 50μm has been employed for the holographic metasurface. Following the top PI metasurface layer is a 40 μm thick adhesive layer (Dk = 6, Df = 0.004), followed by the Rogers RT 5880 substrate layer (Dk = 2.20, Df = 0.0009) with 1.6 mm thickness grounded at the bottom. The antenna is designed for 15 GHz, directional radiation, and beam steering at ɵ = 10° by implementing the intended metasurface.
