Factors Associated with Recurrence of Breast Cancer Using Cox Proportional Hazard Model

The purpose of the study is to investigate the predictors associated with breast cancer recurrence. From 2004 to 2006, the Benghazi Medical Center's Department of Oncology (DoO) provided the data set. Eight factors-social and clinical-were taken into account in this investigation. The Cox proportional hazard model was fitted, survival curves were generated using the Kaplan-Meier method, and hazard ratios were obtained with a 95% confidence interval. A total of 107 patients (49.1%) and 111 patients (50.9%) had censored observations (no recurrence occurred). The study concluded that patients who have received hormonal therapy have improved their survival time. In contrast, chemotherapy increases the risk of tumor return. These results have significant clinical implications and can assist medical professionals in making informed decisions about treatment options for breast cancer patients, ultimately improving patient outcomes and survival rates.
