Smart Energy Conservation System with Crime Prevention and Control

Currently, streetlights worldwide consume a significant amount of electrical energy. This paper explores the concept of smart streetlights with a focus on crime prevention in rural areas. The primary objective of smart streetlight systems is to activate lights when required and deactivate them when unnecessary. Additionally, the smart streetlight system described in this paper operates similarly to traditional streetlights, remaining illuminated throughout the night. The preferred operation of the smart streetlight system is continuous nighttime illumination; however, it incorporates a motion sensor to activate the lights in the presence of an object. When no object is detected, the streetlights automatically power down. Furthermore, these streetlights are equipped with cameras that capture images of detected objects. Digital image processing technology is employed for object detection and image storage, with a specific focus on alerting authorities in the presence of weapons. Unlike conventional CCTV cameras, a standard camera is utilized for image capture. This smart lighting system ensures that the lights are illuminated in advance of pedestrian and vehicle presence and extinguished when there is no activity.
