Comparison of Two Operating Strategies of Energy Storage for Wind Farms

To improve the flexibility for the main system, newly constructed wind farms are forced to provide frequency regulation capability. Energy storage is chosen to fulfill this demand. However, it's hard to get cost recovery, and there is no discussion about the profit model after the integration of the energy storage. To fill this gap, a profit-analysis framework is set up for the restructured wind farm, that is, the wind-storage power station. The framework is based on the participation of the energy market with coordinated primary frequency regulation service. Firstly, the operating strategy is discussed. Secondly, the coordinated unit commitment is constructed to feature the wind farms. Finally, different cases are studied upon different strategies. The wind power consumption rate and the total income of the wind farm are analysed when different load fluctuation rates are attached. Through a detailed profit analysis, this study will facilitate the flexible improvement of newly constructed wind farms, and smooth the dual carbon target.
