Context-Aware Remote User Placement for Immersive 360 Communications

In immersive communication systems, geographically separated users must be able to properly communicate both with users located together in a real scenario as well as with those remotely connected. For the remote users is key to experience the most realistic scenario, so they can feel involved in the communication taking place in the remote location. To this end, in this work we present a method for automatic context-aware avatar placement for immersive 360 communications based on artificial intelligence. Specifically, we are going to work with the communication system presented in [1] and our method will automatically decide the best location in the 360 scene for the avatars representing the remote users. We will show how the immersive experience improves with this new system, as the user with the Head Mounted Display (HMD) will feel that everybody is present in the same location.
