ClassesInVR: An Immersive VR-Based Classroom

We present a demonstration of ClassesInVR, an immersive VR-based classroom. Using ClassesInVR, instructors can create virtual lectures by uploading a pre-recorded presentation. To assess student performance, we provide timed multiple-choice pre- and post-exams with automatic feedback provided at the end of the exam. For instructors who wish to analyze student knowledge assimilation based on activities within the VR environment, we store headset and hand controller position and orientation values and eye-tracking data. When using ClassesInVR, a student can take a pre-exam, listen to a lecture, and take a post-exam. To enable note-taking, we provide a manual tool which allows the student to use the controller to write notes on a virtual paper, erase content, add new pages, and navigate between pages, and an automated AI-driven lecture summarization tool. We provide video demos within the environment to enable students to learn how to use ClassesInVR. When watching a lecture in ClassesInVR, we immerse students in an auditorium style classroom with an overhead projector, a photorealistic avatar of the instructor, animated non-playable virtual students, and a usable notebook placed on the desk.
