Cross Layer Design for TCP Optimization Through Flow Control and Adaptive Modulation and Coding

Due to its time-varying nature, Transmission Control Protocol (TCP), which is used in wired systems, cannot be used in wireless systems. Through an indirect channel, TCP can detect the congestion by looking for missed acknowledgments. When there are weak channel restrictions, packet loss is caused by the congestion window issue rather than actual congestion. In view of this, Adaptive Modulation and Coding (AMC) and flow control can be integrated through a cross-layer design to improve TCP's working in time-varying channels. This work illustrates a novel cross-layer method for progressing the performance of the TCP in wireless systems by avoiding the chokepoint of packet losses using flow management and Adaptive Modulation Coding (AMC). The findings show that the suggested technique can significantly improve performance.
