Design and Implementation of a Smart Rain Barrel Network via the Blynk IoT Platform

In this paper, we present the Smart Rain Barrel Network (SRBN), a novel solution that combines sensor technology with the Blynk Internet of Things (IoT) platform to help reduce surface runoff due to heavy rainfalls that contribute to urban flooding. The SRBN's proactive approach involves emptying barrels prior to rain events and then strategically opening gates during rainfall to capture and store water, thereby mitigating flood risks. Its built-in scalability allows for easy integration of additional rain barrels into the network through the Blynk interface. By enabling remote monitoring and control of rain barrels, the system effectively reduces flood risks and alleviates strain on municipal sewer systems.
