Implementation of Multimedia Development Life Cycle (MDLC) Method in Smart Comic Learning Based on Augmented Reality

Bullying phenomenon in children is a serious issue that requires attention from various stakeholders. Both victims and perpetrators of bullying are predominantly children and adolescents. Bullying can have serious physical and mental impacts on children. One solution to prevent child bullying is through the use of engaging and interactive teaching materials. Comics are one medium that can be employed for this purpose. Additionally, the development of Augmented Reality (AR) technology can be integrated with comics to create more engaging and interactive educational media. This research aims to design and develop an educational comic for preventing child bullying based on Augmented Reality (AR). The development of Augmented Reality in this comic uses the Multimedia Development Life Cycle (MDLC) method to ensure quality and alignment with user needs. The research results indicate that the educational comic for preventing child bullying based on Augmented Reality (AR) can run on smartphones with operating systems ranging from version 9 (Pie) to version 14 (Tiramisu) as determined by compatibility testing. From testing the success of marker detetion without obstructions, the results show successful marker detection within an angle range of 0 30° and a distance range of 15-60cm. However, marker detection failed in the angle range of 60-90°. Usability testing yielded an average score of 88.5%, indicating that the implementation of Augmented Reality in this comic is deemed “Highly Suitable” for use as a distinct educational tool for addressing child bullying.
