Design Analysis of Comparison Variations in the Number of Blades 3 and 6 On the Performance of Horizontal Wind Turbines with AC Generators

Wind turbines utilize wind energy that blows against the turbine blade so that the rotor rotates, the rotation of the rotor which is connected to the generator makes the generator rotor spin and produces electricity. Therefore the wind speed affects the rotating rotor and blades on the turbine. This research aims to make a comparison of the influence of the number of blades 3 and blade 6 on the optimal horizontal wind turbine. In this research, a wind turbine was designed using a horizontal turbine with an AC generator that was rectified by a diode rectifier circuit. The blade design has a blade length of 57 cm, a bottom width of 10 cm, and a tip width of 5 cm. The horizontal wind turbine provides wind with a wind speed of 3 m/s, 3.5 m/s, 4 m/s, 4.5 m/s, and 5 m/s which is generated by the wind generator in the Integrated Lab. From this research, results were obtained when charging the battery, giving it a DC and AC load. The results of the battery charging test using a blade 3 wind turbine showed that the highest voltage was 31.31 volts with a current produced of 0.15 amperes, while on a blade 6 wind turbine, the highest voltage was 33.31 volts producing 0.15 amperes. When a load was applied, the highest voltage obtained using blade 3 was 32.96 volts, producing a current of 0.18 amperes, while using blade 6, the voltage was 39.23 volts, producing a current of 0.18 amperes. The test results were obtained using a wind speed of 5 m/s. The electrical energy produced is stored in a 12-volt battery with a capacity of 6 Ah to power DC lights and an inverter for AC loads. This wind turbine uses different types of materials for the blade and rotor hub, where the blade is made from the used iron plate and the rotor hub uses plastic material used for the S91 ESPASS 6-blade radiator fan.
