Performance Evaluation of DWDM Network for Varying Link Length

Dence Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) Optical fiber communication system performance is evaluated for varying link length and for different encoding formats. Bit Error Rate is observed at the channel spacing 1.6 nm and with data rate 10 Gbps. The BER values are better for smaller link lengths. The BER values at link length 10 Kms for 2, 4 and 8 channel systems are in the range of 10–

. The BER values for Non Return to Zero (NRZ) modulation and Return to Zero (RZ) for link lengths 1,5,10 and 20 Kms is evaluated. In both the modulation formats the BER is better than threshold and also using NRZ the better values of BER is observed than RZ for 16 channel DWDM system.
