Corrosion Monitoring in Reinforced Concrete by Using Embeddable Wire-Typed Sensor

When conducting an evaluation of the durability of reinforced concrete structures in maritime settings, it is of the utmost importance to take into consideration the significant influence that corrosion of steel reinforcement and concrete degradation have on the decision-making process. The nondestructive approach known as potential mapping is well recognized and accurately characterized. It is used for the purpose of determining the possibility of corrosion occurring in steel bars that are included into concrete constructions. It has been established that half-cell potential mapping is an efficient and non-intrusive way for finding and analyzing corrosion-prone locations, as well as for continually monitoring and evaluating structural states. This method has also been shown to be beneficial in maintaining structural integrity. Furthermore, this approach offers insights into the effectiveness of repair interventions. An alternative perspective on the disadvantages of half-cell potential, conversely, yielded undesirable outcomes. The value of the reading was affected by a wide range of environmental elements, including as the features of the environment that was around it, the quantity of water that was there, and the degree of relative humidity found in the atmosphere. The purpose of this work is to examine the advancement of corrosion monitoring sensors in protected reinforced concrete and propose an innovative concept for the foreseeable future, specifically focusing on the embeddable sensor for corrosion potential mapping.
