Filter design for harmonics reduction in multi phases system rectifier driving dc motor

Three-phase power systems are the backbone of both power generation and transmission systems. With the development taking place in the industrial and commercial fields leads to increase in the number of users, which was accompanied by an increase in demand for electrical energy, the need to diversify the sources of that energy increased. With the emergence of alternative renewable energies such as wind energy, geothermal energy, and solar energy as means to help improve network performance in substations, the idea arose of increasing the number of phases used in electrical systems, so it growth to five, six, seven, etc., leading to improve the flexibility of the network and increased its reliability for various types of loads. This research deals with the study of the design filters for a DC drive consisting of a twelve-pulse wave rectifier circuit that feeds a DC motor. MATLAB program was used to design the dual-tune filter in order to reduce or eliminate the harmonics arising due to the rectification process. A set of results describing system performance in addition to total harmonics distortion (THD) introduce before and after adding filters showing fall from 15.94 to 3.43 % of total harmonics distortion.
