Towards an Environmentally-friendly Street Sweeping Vehicle with Reduced Water Consumption

Cities and municipalities that have organized intensive cleaning of streets and public areas provide their residents with better and healthier living conditions. Regular cleaning with a fleet of cleaning vehicles has both positive and negative effects, as the vehicles contribute to a significant increase in the concentration of PM10 particles in the air and, to a lesser extent, PM2.5 particles due to the dust raised by the cleaning vehicle on the road. This paper describes the development of a wet cleaning control subsystem installed on an all-electric cleaning vehicle to minimize the increase in the concentration of PM2.5 and PM10 particles. The experimental results of PM measurement during the cleaning operations of the vehicle show that the installation position of the PM sensors plays a key role in the successful control of dust suppression.
