Performance Comparison Among Robust Acoustic Linear, Rectangular, and Circular Microphone Array Beamformers

A microphone array is a cluster of numerous microphones set in a specified pattern to capture audio signals from various directions, used for audio recording, voice recognition, and noise suppression. This paper proposes a comparative analysis of acoustic Uniform Linear Array(ULA), Uniform Rectangular Array(URA), and Uniform Circular Array (UCA) beamformers utilizing a robust approach in the presence of interference and noise. New Variable Loading(NVL) is the robust technique used. The robust technique greatly improves the performance of ULA, URA, and UCA, as shown by the numerical simulation results, resulting in a higher signal-to-interference and noise ratio (SINR) for the beamformer. UCA provides the highest array gain and SINR compared to ULA and URA. The performance analysis entails extensive MATLAB-based computer simulations.
