Reducing Power Consumption of 5G C-RAN With Flexible Fronthaul Split

By combining RAN and cloud networking, the Cloud Radio Access Network (C-RAN) architecture has been recognized as a workable approach for tackling the difficulties of future generation (5G) wireless networks. A new paradigm for energy consumption and resource optimization is introduced by C-RAN. This study introduces C-RAN with different fronthaul networks and suggests a power model that seeks to reduce the network's overall power usage. The key contributions of this paper are suggesting a power model and splitting the networks. Simulation result reveals that our proposed Millimeter-Wave C-RAN (mm-Wave) architecture consumes less power compared to the Time and Wavelength Division Multiplexing PON (TWDM-PON), the Ethernet Passive Optical Network (EPON), and the Active Optical Network (AON).
