Design of a Robust Excitation System Stabilizer Using H∞ Synthesis to Improve the Stability of a Multi-Machine Power System

The excitation control system of a synchronous generator helps in improving the terminal voltage regulation and the power system transient stability. To enhance system stability in a wide range of operating scenarios, an excitation system stabilizer (ESS) must be included in the excitation control system. This research shows how the ESS can be utilized to prevent an unstable operating scenario in a multi-machine system caused by a variety of transient events. synthesis technique. A traditionally designed power system stabilizer is also included to provide positive damping torque to electro-mechanical oscillations. The proposed control approach has been verified on the 68-bus 16-machine power system.
