Kilowatt Pulse-Power Wideband Photonic-Assisted Field-Probing Receiver

In this paper, a wideband photonic-assisted field-probing receiver that can be used to measure active phased-array transmitter with 1-kW peak pulsed output power is presented. The active phased-array transmitter consists of 192-channel transmit modules, and each transmit module with more than 6 W of CW output power is connected to a rigid tapered slot antenna in the frequency range of 6-18 GHz. We have developed a field characterization system using photonic technology to enhance the measurement capability of commercial field probes. The field probe consists of an optical interferometric waveguide on a lithium niobite electro-optic substrate in the folded Mach-Zehnder style. A detailed design approach of a field-probing receiver is demonstrated to evaluate the performance of the transmitter.
