Bluebreathe: A Bluetooth Based Human Respiration Monitoring System

In this paper, a human respiration rate detection system Bluebreathe based on Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) system is developed, which innovatively uses radio frequency(RF) of BLE. Our work collects channel state information (CSI) phase via BLE access technology, and then we utilize received CSI of both slave and master to do phase sanitization with channel fusion. To decompose CSI phase signal and extract respiration component, we employs empirical mode decomposition (EMD). Compared with other Bluetooth-based sensor devices for vital sign detection and wireless vital sign monitoring systems using other RF signals, Bluebreathe not only has the advantage of no contact, no additional sensor devices, and no large-scale antenna arrays, its power consumption is significantly lower, so the proposal of Bluebreathe has greater significance.
