Multipoint Selective Stimulation of Neural Spheroid Network with Microelectrode Array

This paper presents a device for multipoint selective electrical stimulation of neural spheroid networks, featuring an in-situ fabricated gold electrode array and enclosed microchannels. These spheroids connect via microchannels, forming neural networks. Since the enclosed PDMS microchannels can attenuate the leakage of the electrical field, precise stimulation of selected spheroids is possible. We successfully created neural network formation between neural spheroids by culturing mouse neural stem cells (mNSC) in this device. Furthermore, by stimulating only single neural spheroid with electrode, we were able to evaluate the effects of external input signals on the entire neural spheroid network.
