Evaluation of the Formulas of Bed Load Transport Rate Prediction of the Euphrates River in the Upstream Ramadi Barrage

The prevention of erosion and sedimentation is one of the primary goals of river management and the prediction of river behaviors. Examining the geometrical characteristics of rivers and bed erosion is one of the most difficult but crucial issues in river engineering and sediment hydraulics. This project aimed to give hydraulic engineers and decision-makers an accurate and dependable sediment transport equation that could be utilized to govern river engineering and modify river morphology. This study evaluated the bed load and their estimated quantity upstream of the Ramadi Barrage on the Euphrates River in the Anbar area of western Iraq. Four formulas, including Du Boys, Shields, Meter-Peters, and Rottner’s, were used to evaluate the applicability of bed load transport formulas to the study reach. The performance of these models was assessed based on the precision with which they predicted the actual bed load relative to a specified deviation ratio. The analyses indicated thatThe bed load calculated using the Meter-Peters approach matched well with the observed bed load. In contrast, the Du Boys, Shields, and Rottner approach exceeded the expected bed load transfer rate. Field measurements show that a bed’s average daily load crossing rate is 31.866 tons.
