Impacts of static magnetic fields exposure on erythrocytes counts and indices: in-vivo study

This study was undertaken to investigate the influence of static magnetic field (SMF) on blood erythrocyte counts, indices and morphologies. Twenty-five groups of female albino rats participated. Rats were exposed with 2.4mT SMF for 1hr, 2hrs, 4hrs, 6hrs and 8hrs per day during one–four weeks. Complete blood counts (CBC) tests revealed an 8-11% increase of red blood cell (RBC) counts due to 8hrs/day exposure at 2-4 weeks. The maximum raise of it was 15% (significance$- \mathrm{p}\lt 0.05)$ as a result of 4hrs/day exposure at 3 weeks. Low exposure time/day did not enhance RBC counts significantly. Hemoglobin (HGB) levels increased with 12.7% $(\mathrm{p}\lt 0.05)$ owing to 8hrs/day exposure for 2 weeks. Mean corpuscular volume (MCV), mean corpuscular hemoglobin (MCH) and mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration (MCHC) alteration were insignificant. Optical microscope images supported CBC test results. Close-packed aggregation, teardrop cell, target-cells, and hypochromic cells were detected versus certain treatments with SMF.
