Swelling in Lithium-Ion Pouch Batteries

Lithium-ion batteries are widely used in various applications, such as electric vehicles, portable devices, and gid-scale energy storage. One of the major challenges facing lithium-ion batteries is the swelling phenomenon, which causes performance degradation and safety hazards. Swelling is caused by the volume change of the electrodes during charge and discharge cycles, as well as the gas generation due to side reactions. This paper presents a design of experiments that explores the impact of C-rate and ambient temperature on swelling during charge-discharge cycling tests.
