Leveraging Electronic Healthcare Records Based on ISO/EN 13606 for Enhanced Telemedicine in Rural Colombia

Healthcare coverage remains a major challenge for rural populations in Colombia. The proposed healthcare reform aims to establish a model of primary healthcare, ensuring universal access for all Colombians. Telemedicine, utilizing new information and communication technologies, emerges as a cost-effective tool to expand healthcare coverage. In line with public health policies, we propose a telemedicine-based protocol for health promotion and prevention of Acute Respiratory Infection (ARI), providing essential tools for patient and caregiver care, including diagnosis, rehabilitation, monitoring, and control. To achieve project goals, we analyzed preventive practices during the Covid-19 pandemic in Córdoba department, designing a telemedicine-based primary care protocol and an integrated model of telemedicine. Implementing telemedicine with well-designed protocols promises significant benefits for underserved populations, facilitating remote healthcare services and integrating vital processes like health education, treatment continuity, and rehabilitation.
